Chairs

It all began in the summer of 2001 when I broke my cheap beach chair. I didn’t want to buy another cheap beach chair. I wanted to build the Ferrari of beach chairs. I envision the design immediately: it had a wood frame with a high back to rest my head, ergonomically designed arms and marine grade fabric attached to the frame with thin bungee cord. When I imagined sitting down in it, I said to myself, “Oh Yeah Comfy!”. I couldn’t stop thinking about making it. The only problem was that I’d never done any woodworking. Over that next year, I found that chasing the mental image I had, and making it a reality was incredibly fulfilling. I didn’t realize it at the time, but with this project I was expressing myself creatively. I found it incredibly fulfilling. I now build three chairs models. The Oh Yeah Comfy beach chair, the Cruiser mid height chair, and the High Boy a standard height lounge chair.
